Doctoral Fellowship Program
The Center for Ethics in Public Life and the Rackham School of Graduate Studies are pleased to announce a new program of summer fellowships for doctoral students who are writing dissertations related to ethics in public life. Dissertations may be broadly construed to encompass not only work on normative questions and policy, but also investigations of the empirical side of ethics and public life, and creative projects aimed at stimulating reflection on the ethical dimensions of our lives in common.
The program will consist of summer support for students and regular meetings in a workshop format where Fellows, drawn from a variety of programs on campus, will share their ethics-related research and other interests in ethics.
For the inaugural summer of the program, we expect to make awards to up to six students.
Eligibility
Doctoral candidates from the Ann Arbor campus in any Rackham doctoral program who are in good standing are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to applicants who have made substantial progress on their dissertations and who are therefore in a position to provide chapters to other fellows for discussion in the workshop.
Award Amount
The fellowship will provide a stipend of up to $4000, distributed equally in the months of May-August. The Workshop Fellows (and invited guests) will meet approximately six times during the summer (in the Rackham Building). Each Fellow will have the opportunity to present her/his research to the group. The remaining workshop sessions will be devoted to topics or invited speakers selected by the Fellows.
The Center for Ethics in Public Life is an interdisciplinary center dedicated to the encouragement of teaching, research and creative projects, and public discourse that promote understanding of the ethical dimensions of our lives, and especially, the lives we live in common.
